WIRE GUIDE

Do not know how much wire to use? Not sure what type of wire to use? No need to panic just yet. Many of our Dog Fences come with a standard 500 feet of wire. Also, there is only 1 type of wire that can be used and in only 2 sizes that will work. In this section, we will go over how much wire you will need and when to use which wire.

What wire to use?

Only use burial approved boundary wires. This wire is going to be in the ground and exposed to the elements, so it is very important that the wire used is durable and waterproof. Burial approved wires have Polyurethane coat that makes it waterproof and a solid copper coat for efficiency.

Between 1/2 and 1 Acre
Between 500 and 1000 feet

Between 1 and 3 Acres
Between 1000 and 1500 feet

Between 3 and 5 Acres
Between 1500 and 2000 feet

Use 18-Gauge if:

  • Rocky soil is present
  • If installing the wire above ground
  • If the yard has many trees

Use 20-Gauge if:

  • For smooth, loose soil
  • If laying the wire near a fence
  • If the yard has few trees
