Recommended Websites How Do Car Gears Work? Cars and other mechanical devices have gears. Without them, it would be absolutely impossible to operate many mechanical equipment. Car gears can make our work faster depending upon the application. But do you know how gears work? Car gears can not work or perform alone. A series of gears turning and connecting to each other allows energy and movement from one gear to another. These gears are capable of converting the rotation of the vehicle into linear motion. A gear set allows the movement of rotational pieces from one particular axis to another. The way in which the gears work together based upon their size is called gear ratio. This ratio is determined based upon counting the number of teeth on the gear. The problem with different type and number of gears is that the distance from the center of each gear to the point of contact changes as the gears rotate. This means that the gear ratio changes as the gear turns, meaning that the output speed also changes. Car gears are often used as a method of changing the direction of the rotation. The steering wheel is what will rotate the gear. As it turns, the rack will move to the right or left based on how you turn the wheel. A power is transmitted by a shaft that runs down the center of the car, that makes wheels rotate. It takes a massive amount of force to get a car moving from a standstill and an engine that tries to go at top speed, right from the word go, will not generate enough force to do it. Each time you pass power from one gear wheel to another, you can increase increase speed, increase force and change directions. Automotive Sites: |
